Are your candles pet and child-friendly?
Absolutely! Essential oil candles create a soothing ambience that benefits everyone, including pets and children. Just remember to place them in well-ventilated areas and out of reach from curious little hands or paws. By following these precautions, you can enjoy the calming effects of essential oil candles while ensuring the safety and well-being of your loved ones.
How do I properly care for my candle?
1) Allow the candle to create a full 'melt pool'. On the first burn, it's important to allow the candle wax to fully melt and reach the edges of the tin to prevent tunnelling. This process may take a couple of hours depending on environmental conditions.
2) Trim the wick. For optimal burning, trim the wick to 5mm (approx. half a pinky nail) after the first burn and before each subsequent lighting. Use scissors or a wick trimmer for cutting. Trimming the wick improves the candle's efficiency.
3) Avoid airflow. Avoid placing candles near open windows, fans, or any other sources of air movement. Drafts can cause uneven burning and pose a fire risk.
4) Keep the candle clean. Store candles in a cool, dry place with the lid on to keep them free from dust and debris.

Absolutely! We prioritize environmental sustainability in every aspect of our candle production. Our candles are crafted using natural soy wax, a renewable resource that burns cleaner and longer than traditional paraffin wax. We also use lead-free cotton wicks and thoughtfully selected essential oils for a safe and eco-friendly experience. Our packaging is made from recyclable materials to minimize our environmental footprint. We are dedicated to creating products that enhance your well-being and contribute to a healthier planet.
How long do your candles burn?
Our candles have a burn time of a minimum of 25 hours.
Do you use eco-friendly packaging materials?
We are fully transparent about our candle production and packaging processes. Our candles are crafted using 100% natural soy wax, featuring cotton and paper wicks that are zinc and lead-free. For packaging, we use recyclable tin cans and unbleached paper, which we repurpose from received shipments. Our eco-friendly labels are FSC® certified, made from 100% recycled paper sourced from well-managed forests. All our boxes are recyclable, and we use compostable mailers for shipping. While we currently use plastic adhesive-on wick and label stickers, we are actively seeking greener alternatives!
Why is my candle bumpy and rough at the top after burning?
No need to worry! The bumpy surface on your candle is a common characteristic of 100% soy wax. It occurs due to the natural cooling process. It's actually a sign of the candle's authenticity and doesn't indicate any quality issues.
How can I stop my candle from tunnelling?
To prevent tunnelling, which is when a hollow space forms around the wick, it's important not to extinguish the candle before it has reached its optimal burn time. Leaving leftover wax can hinder the candle's maximum burn potential and make it challenging to relight in the future. To avoid this, ensure that you burn the candle until the entire top layer has melted into liquid wax. This allows the candle to set evenly without any tunnelling issues.
I've tunnelled my candle! What can I do now?
Don't stress! There's an easy fix if you've accidentally tunnelled your candle. What you need to do is create a foil wrap around the sides and top of the tin, then poke a hole to light the wick. This will create an oven inside the candle for the edges to melt down. Make sure on the first burn to always leave your candle lit until all the wax has melted to the edge, as this forms a memory ring for the next burn.
I’d love to reuse my tins! How do I clean the tin jars?
Good question! At Sea Zen, we're all about upcycling. To properly clean your tins, first, you'll want to remove any additional wax on the inside of the jar. You can do this using a fork or spoon to scrape off the leftover wax, then wash the inside with soap and warm water. If you want to remove any labelling, you can simply use a hairdryer (works like a charm).
